About Indigenous Community Stories
Indigenous Community Stories records Western Australia’s Indigenous heritage, cultural and historical stories using future-proof, high definition digital video technology and professional film crews.
The initiative aims to record 100 Indigenous oral histories, so they can be viewed by future generations as well as creating invaluable records of Australia’s national cultural identity.
Stories may be creation stories; purely biographical; about a particular period in time; an event or other social history. This may include song or dance, or a story told in language.
Recording the stories before they are lost forever
Cultural maintenance has never been more pressing. There is a great urgency to record the stories, accomplishments and reflections of communities and senior Indigenous community members across Western Australia before they are lost forever.
The use of high definition digital video ensures that these important oral histories are archived and preserved in a format that will never degrade.
Get your story recorded
FTI is keen to hear from community coordinators or representatives who want to have their community’s stories recorded on film.
FTI will manage the Indigenous Community Stories (ICS) application and selection process, and then coordinate a film crew to visit the successful applicants’ community, to film and digitally archive the stories.
