Abstract

As globalization and modernization come to bear on Ethiopia, cultural and linguistic survival increasing depends on the adaptation of technology to local needs. The pervasiveness of electronic communication technology is forcing societies world wide to face the challenge of cultural preservation with an immediacy never before seen. Societies that can integrate new technology with their traditions will carry their culture into the future. Ethiopia is not asleep to this and has made the first and most important step forward by digitizing Ethiopic. The framework needed to digitize language and culture is now falling into place, but will Ethiopia make it in time?
